EWSRC research holds up because of how it is sourced, funded, and disclosed — open, attributed, and free of classification friction — not because anyone is asked to take it on faith.
EWSRC research is directed by a single accountable research lead and is not shaped by any employer, client, member organization or industry body. Conclusions follow the evidence in the open record, and no party — commissioning or otherwise — approves findings before publication.
The Observatory is maintained as an open research resource, free to defenders and researchers. Commissioned EWSRC work helps sustain that open record. Commissioning supports the practice; it never purchases a predetermined conclusion, and the open record is never paywalled behind an engagement.
Commissioned studies apply the same open-source, cross-sector and fully attributable method as the published research. A commissioning party defines the question and scope; EWSRC retains authorship and editorial control of the analysis. Publication is at the client’s discretion, but the standard of evidence does not change with the client.
Material findings are supported by traceable, publicly checkable sources and explicit evidence chains. Readers do not have to take a conclusion on trust; the chain from claim to source is exposed for inspection and challenge.
Where a material error is identified, it is corrected promptly and the correction is noted. Accuracy of the record takes precedence over the appearance of infallibility.
No classified material informs EWSRC research. Everything published or delivered is built from open and lawfully accessible sources, which is precisely what makes the work shareable and independent of any single institution’s access.
EWSRC accepts commissions from organizations across all critical infrastructure sectors and Space Systems, with one exception: the Communications sector, where preexisting client relationships preclude new advisory engagements. Communications-sector research remains freely available through The Observatory and EWSRC’s published work.
